About The Act

  • Published from 1986 to1991 in New York City by the Performance Project Inc (not-for-profit 501c3).
  • Jeffrey Greenberg, Managing Editor
  • It's purpose was to present "advanced" or "experimental" art.
  • It focused on the personal, internal experience of doing actions rather than the spectacle-like experience usually provided by art-objects and performance art.
  • The journal is archived in the Museum of Modern Art and in most major museums and libraries.
  • Financial support from the National Endowment for the Arts, The New York State Council for the Arts, and other prestigious public and private funders.
