BEST PRACTICES

Our methodology begins with a shared understanding between you and Inventivity about the scope and focus of the report. It includes selecting goals and criteria against which we'll measure the organization. And it uses a series of interviews to provide a detailed examination of your current technology and business environment, as well as examining internal and external data to understand your technology position and the competitive landscape. The final report is ready soon after the completion of the interviews and is presented to the primary stakeholders in person. The goal is to deliver a report that helps people inside and outside of technology understand the state of the technology organization (the "portfolio") and a clear path toward improvement (tools and approaches for "portfolio management").

We address as many as eight main areas in the evaluation (depending on the desired focus of the business):

BEST PRACTICES

  1. Project management and implementation (execution, learning, etc.)
  2. Systems and Platforms (technology, platforms, etc.)
  3. Processes (operational, working with vendors, etc.)
  4. Development Environment (methodology, productivity, etc.)
  5. Operational (disaster planning, reliability, security)
  6. Culture (job satisfaction, environment, etc.)

BEST STRATEGY

  1. Technology alignment to the business
  2. Competitive Technology Assessment

These areas quickly provide valuable insights into the state of the organization with minimal disruption to the team. Inventivity has developed and organized the evaluation based on our experiences leading teams as both employees and consultants and examining the relationships between technologists and the business in many different companies. In our experience, no one "passes" and no one "fails" — wise firms make use of this as a checkup and perform the necessary healthful changes based on its results.

Remember that each of these categories and each of these bullets summarizes a comprehensive set of questions and areas to investigate. Nearly all technology organizations can benefit from a review; the productivity and effectiveness gains will be obvious and measurable. We want to help you increase the performance and focus of your technology organization.

After delving into your team and organization we analyze the results and present a comprehensive report describing the state of the organization with detailed information in each of the areas we were asked to investigate. In addition, we will provide customized recommendations for immediate improvements to situations where we see opportunities for increased focus, better measurement, and more efficient operations.
